Surprisingly beautiful and immersive graphics
New mechanics and changes completely renew the experience.
It is the most accessible game in the franchise.
Absence of more leaders and civilizations

Well-optimized and intuitive controls on PS5
Great replayability and level of customization
Convincing artificial intelligence

Design choices that are streamlined and smart
A strong identity amongst the Civilization legacy
Rewarding depth in the areas that matter

Overhauled resources
Gwendoline Christie

Towns are rad
Forced civ changes
Game pacing at times
Where's Canada?

Splitting ages into distinct sections saves games from growing stale
Mixing and matching leaders and civs adds strategic variety
A lot more emphasis on map positioning and resources
20 leaders and 30 civilizations at launch
Modern Age ends around the WWII era ... no Information Era
Paid DLC content announced before the game launches always irks me
Some minor visual bugs here and there
Matches sometimes end abruptly, and the conclusion is muddy

Excellent synthesis between the fourth, fifth, and sixth chapters.
Improved systems, especially diplomacy and military
Aesthetic and soundtrack among the best in the series
Another turn...
The design of the leaders contrasts slightly with the artistic representation.

The mechanism of influence and everything that its input implies.
Improved diplomacy system, offering greater fluidity in negotiations.
A greater reality in the conditions of the final victory of our culture.
The renewed role of leaders and changes in cultures throughout the ages.
Dynamic maps, featuring natural phenomena and disasters that can influence our journey...
The units of the administrators and their purpose.
The technical sector, while not disappointing, could offer something more in the representation of details and colors.

The communes are an addition that positively complicates the game.
The diplomatic system of influence is a pleasure.
The game is beautiful and runs smoothly.

The legacy system incentivises players playing a wider variety of strategies.
I?m a fan of the way the game looks.

Constant progression is extremely motivating.
Leaders and civilizations bring diversity.
Different conditions of victory and therefore different objectives
The most technically advanced civilization to date.
Complex economic and construction system
Solid and functional computer opponent
The consequences of the decisions are not clearly presented.
No tutorial missions, the encyclopedia does not explain the handling of certain units or buildings.
A mix of leaders and changing civilizations can disrupt immersion.

More accessible than past Civ games for newcomers
The Ages system is a game-changer, and for the better
Buggy at launch
Never-ending "one more turn"

Addictive gameplay
Immersive
Breathtaking music
Some bugs
Missing functions

The simplicity of aspects such as religion
This remains absolutely addictive.
The leaders available for the launch
The sound effects

Do you appreciate their graphic splendor?
... bore you with long calculations of laps.
Postmodernity is important to you.
... the game should be challenging in the end.

Ages split campaigns into manageable chunks
Simplified for new players
Far fewer leaders and civilizations
Odd changes to religion and culture

Ages make late-stage campaigns less of a chore
+
Separating leaders and civilizations makes every faction more consistently meaningful
+
This is the best Civ has ever looked
Transitioning between ages feels heavy-handed
-
Diplomacy is missing some key features
-
Legacy Paths can be one-dimensional

Mix and match approach to history
Ages allow for refreshing changes to a run
Gorgeously balanced new art direction
Influence system is a little dry
Inability to switch off Ages

Game advisors give advice.
Detailed civil encyclopedia
Long-term usual motivation with a strong sense of personal progression
Two breaks per game allow for new and interesting strategies by changing cultures.
Urban growth (now without workers) continues until the end of the game.
Diplomacy and ideologies with interactions
Strong opponent AI
Free peoples show a clear improvement compared to the ancient barbarians.
Cities also grow visually.
Beautiful landscapes and metropolises
Impressive combat animations
Detailed character models that break away from the comic book style of their predecessors.
Very catchy title theme
A well-executed vocal expression
A solid soundtrack during battles and other actions.
Use and manipulation of certain poorly explained units.
The menus are sometimes confusing.
Diplomacy falls short of its potential.
Too little direct feedback on the actions.
Trade is simpler, but also less complex.
Very minimalist menus and technological trees.
Many text deserts
The big picture is often lost in many units in a small space.
The original soundtrack alternates between atmospheric and insistent.
Game advisors only appear in text form.
No "Pros & Cons" find for this reviewer.

changes mostly feel refreshing without being too revolutionary
visuals
animations
and more are beautiful
the Ages refresh doesn't always feel satisfying
influence seems too simple to game against AI

Some much-needed changes to stop the series from stagnating
The addition of commanders improves combat significantly
The soundtrack and narration create a brilliant atmosphere (mostly)
Great Steam Deck optimisation
In some ways, it feels more stripped back than other entries
Classic civs and leaders not available at launch

Very addicting gameplay loop
Still just a very satisfying strategy game
Beautiful soundtrack
Commanders are a great addition
Core changes might not appeal to everyone

The effort to limit micromanagement is mostly a success.
The more agile and flexible nature of matches makes it stand out.
Leader progression adds a much welcome extra layer of customization.
The three-act structure makes matches more unpredictable.
Gorgeous but easily readable graphics.
Fantastic original soundtrack, to the surprise of no one.
Underbaked UI that cheapens the overall feel of the game.
Some missing and oversimplified features feel like oversights.

Truly different enough to delight fans of previous entries
Historically accurate where it needs to be, historically inaccurate when it's more fun that way
Leaders are all distinct and characterful
Commanders make combat far more fun and manageable
Age system provides a great pacing buffer
Online multiplayer matches are difficult to even establish
Civlopedia is a wasted opportunity

Looks great
Gwendoline Christie's voice over
Eats many hours

The possibility to choose a leader independently of civilization.
The gameplay remains as rich and complete as ever.
The right balance between traditional features and new additions.
Some replayability offered by the changes in Ages.
The overly linear progression that smooths out the gameplay and reduces the range of possibilities.
The underutilization of certain mechanics, particularly narrative choices.
The interfaces are not very intuitive.
No "Pros & Cons" find for this reviewer.

New city management system
Improvements in combat and diplomacy systems
Extraordinary graphics and sound design
Many user interface problems and awkward controls in the console version.
The launch version seems a bit incomplete while waiting for the DLCs.
The modern era already seems old.

Gameplay divided into eras
Possibility to choose the same leader for several nations
Crashes on the PS5

The soft reset at each age change
The new city system that encourages proliferation.
Great redesign of the diplomatic aspect
Nice changes to the battles
Very few cards
Structures too predictable

The new system of three eras and the way of offering a more organic evolution of our small great empire are successes that are here to stay and demonstrate the authority of the saga.
It is not only impressive on an artistic level, but also masterfully intuitive for those who have skimmed through the previous deliveries.
The way the mouse and keyboard adapt to the controls and the Steam Deck plays totally in their favor.
