Pros and cons for Onimusha Way of the Sword List of reviews and ratings
To better compare, we looked for you the advantages and disadvantages of Below and the notes given by specialized sites.

Lots of combat options
Cinematic narrative presentation
When it?s over, it?s over
Maybe too linear for some

Excellent combat system
Solid level design for the linear quests striking a great balance between classic series gameplay and modernization
Varied enemy design
Great difficulty balance that forces the player to use all of the combat mechanics
Semi-open world Kyoto isn't particularly well realized
Visuals aren't particularly advanced

Weighty and impressively evolving combat
Solid mix of expanding open-world and level gameplay
Massive array of skills, special weapons, & items to master
Excellent soundtrack
A top-tier take on Musashi and Ganryu's rivalry
A few enemies and bosses used more than I'd have liked

Runs amazing on Switch 2.
Visual design and boss encounters that are both beautiful and horrific to watch.

The combat animations are sensational, with many movements that vary depending on the enemy.
Facial expressions are of the highest quality; Musashi shines a lot here.
Musashi is a great protagonist that one cannot help but become attached to.
The supporting characters shine brightly and leave a legacy.
The villains do not just accomplish: they leave a mark with their atrocities and charisma.
Musashi's skills are incredibly spectacular and continue to add to the spectacle of the fight.
Boss battles are clearly the most remarkable feature: very epic and stimulating.
The strikes, the parries, and the dodges: everything works perfectly and provides great satisfaction.
The secondary content is extensive and even allows for a deeper exploration of the characters and the creation of very cool little stories.
Sometimes, it seems like the game is missing a third difficulty option that would serve as a bridge between the two available options.
Healing animation brings little and sometimes blocks you.

Fully localized in Brazilian Portuguese, with wonderful dubbing.
Good combination of hack and slash and duels in a style closer to that of Souls-like games.
The use of Toshiro Mifune's face gives a unique personality to the character.
Agile, reactive and very satisfying combat
The game has a solid foundation, but ends up repeating some challenges.
Some struggles require patience beyond what is expected.

Exceptional combat system centered around Musashi's katana
Some funny side stories
Many unlockable bonuses
Atmospheric and detailed gaming world
Background music and good German synchronization.
Too much recycling of enemy bosses
Most of the side quests are quite generic.

Very rewarding boss fight
Cameras need to be installed in narrow spaces.

Enjoyable gameplay!
Cool graphics
Mifune/Musashi!!!!
We would like even more weapons or objects with which to interact.

Original chefs
Simple combat system to understand, but with a layer of depth.
Some side missions are too boring.
On Nintendo Switch 2, the transition between gameplay and cutscenes is more noticeable.

Combat system of formidable efficiency and depth
Sound design
the obligation to farm
Be careful, it's tough

Combat feels really fluid and is very satisfying
Kyoto looks beautiful
The side quests need tightening
The boss fights can be too difficult for newcomers to the genre

Fast, responsive, addictive combat
Plenty of upgrades and cosmetics to unlock
Musashi is likable
Rehashed mid-tier bosses get cumbersome

Flexible and stylish combat framework
Some of the best boss fights in recent memory
Excellent facial animations
Unique and expressive soundscape
Flat level design and hub area

One of the best combat systems I have ever played
Memorable bosses
Miyamoto Musashi and his facial expressions
The animations are slick.
Some very cool antagonists
A top-of-the-line Switch 2 version
A challenge met but not insurmountable
A structure and a gameplay loop not up to par

Incredibly fun combat
Engaging characters and story

Its presentation is stunning
Plenty of content
The gulf in difficulty between normal encounters and bosses is jarring

Great English voice cast
Authentic and detailed Japanese setting
Engaging story and characters
Open-world structure is a bit bloated and dull

Constantly rewarding sense of progression
Solid amount of challenges to take on
Campaign could use much more variety

The satisfaction provided by the parade system.
Meetings against the leaders are generally well organized.
The tone of the story is fantastic.
Fantastic performance and visual quality on PS5 Pro.
The open world section is detrimental to the overall experience. It falls too much into genre clichés.

Great central performance from the main character
Lots of accessibility options for those that find the combat challenging
Lion Dogs are adorable
Once I have rescued Lion Dogs I want to see them everywhere

Animations that give real weight to each blow, even more than pure graphics.
Musashi, far from the usual silent samurai, embraces adventure.
Spectacular bosses that justify on their own all the learning of the system.
Some recycled boss encounters, too bad considering the quality of the originals.
Point aliasing and vegetation in height are improvable.

Spectacular swordfighting combat with tightly executed mechanics
Parrying and dodging always feel satisfying
Great enemy design, spectacular boss fights
Tight, focused level design that still offers room for exploration and optional content
Looks great, runs almost flawlessly.
Some gameplay and design aspects tend to over-rely on the combat?s strengths, and come across as a little generic
Occasionally wonky facial animations.

Story in the vein of Onimusha.
The majority of successful bosses...
Lifespan
Successful sword fight
high-quality French voice
A highly precise and exhilarating saber combat system
A true identity in the face of standardization
... but they all have the same pattern
Disappointing open world

Spectacular and well-crafted boss battles.
Miyamoto Musashi is a charismatic protagonist.
High-impact artistic direction
Excellent fluidity on PS5 in Performance mode
Complete dubbing in Italian
Secondary activities that tend to become repetitive.
Some situations and types of enemies are too overused.
Exploration often excessively guided
The most open structure does not always highlight the rhythm of the adventure.

Great staging of feudal Japan.
Spectacular chefs and very good confrontations
Repetition of enemies and bosses.
The AI of some enemies is too passive.

The Genma designs frighten
The swordplay and environmental combat are rewarding to master

Razor-sharp boss battles
Exquisite animation work
Repetitive design

Management is complex, but within capabilities.
Accessibility options
Two interchangeable difficulty levels at any time, with another one unlockable.
More than 20 hours of gameplay for perfectionists...
Many unlockable combat and special skills as well as Oni weapons.
Create time windows for combat actions
Kyoto is gradually opening up.
The mini-bosses and level bosses are challenging.
Quality mode (30FPS) and performance mode (60FPS), the latter works perfectly.
Good character models
Beautiful animations
Beautiful light effects
Dynamic camera settings during duels
Some beautiful places
Atmospheric soundtrack
Good German musical adaptation
Beautiful clinking of blades in battles
Directional effects allow you to locate hidden enemies.
Kyoto gets boring after a while, scenes like rolling tree trunks are too rare.
Few laborious tasks are necessary to level up.
Too few and too simple riddles
Mainly sad and dark environments
The objects dissolve into a grid shape as the camera passes overhead.
The dialogues are very modern.
The NPC quest dialogues have not been dubbed.

Miyamoto Musashi is simply great.
Confrontations with state-of-the-art bosses
Some designs are exceptional
Design of flat levels and content
Secondary activities to forget
Very guided in all aspects

Impressive bosses who challenge enough...
The RE engine does not suffer from technical issues with the game.
Charismatic characters with a strong backstory...
... but the other remaining Genma are often too easy.
Lighting sometimes dominates the color palette.
... as long as you completely set aside the interpretation in English

The original version
Easy to handle
Classic but effective
Slow to start
Technical weaknesses
Very unequal fights

Mid-game pacing issues

Beautiful graphics, whether it's the landscapes or the monsters.
Smooth gameplay
An apocalyptic atmosphere in the Edo style.
Help in combat if requested.
The environment can serve as an aid in combat.
Lady Oni sometimes talks a little too much
Sometimes it's complicated to retrieve orbs when you're under attack.
Excellent learning curve
Talented balms offer truly valuable improvements.
Sword fights, blade crossings, and interactive environmental objects ensure a dynamic experience.
Some good side missions
Superb musical composition
Very high quality animation
Great boss battles, fantastic enemy design in general.
Charismatic protagonist
The story manages to juggle between well-dosed humor and emotional/difficult scenes.
A bit too much recycling of opponents
Slightly disappointing graph

Demanding and memorable bosses who make the most of combat mechanics.
Excellent environment and visual aspect, with a very competent adaptation to the Switch 2.
The variety of main weapons is somewhat reduced.
Some side missions may be too conventional and repetitive.

Excellent learning curve
Musashi and the cast are well characterized.
Limited variety of common enemies
Recycling certain situations
Satisfactory Issen mechanics
Powerful samurai action
Environments and repetitive tasks
Too many unnecessary passages slow down the pace.
Not enough variety outside of battles
