A new relevant vision of the Silent Hill DNA
A gripping plot and atmosphere
Powerful and perfectly mastered themes
Stunning artistic direction and soundtrack
Scenes that will leave a lasting impression on you
the immense interest of new game
+
The camera does not always reposition itself very well during slightly physical altercations.
No French dubbing (but a top-notch Japanese voice-over)
Some inscriptions and posters on the walls are not translated (fortunately, this is not blocking).
Endurance bar that empties a little too quickly for my taste.

Balanced game
Outstanding graphics and performance
Extras and careful translation
Subtitled in Brazilian Portuguese
Lack of dubbing in Portuguese
No "Pros & Cons" find at TierraGamer
Environments, imagery, character art, and creature design are gorgeous, grotesque, and spectacular
Combat and overall gameplay is remarkably fun, well-designed, and keeps larger areas from feeling stale or grating
New game plus adds incredible amount of content, context, and replayability
Tight spaces, quickly depleting stamina bar, and imperfect controls can lead to some frustrating encounters

Some combat mechanics feel a little overtuned
Minor yet noticeable performance issues on PC

Cutscenes capped at 30 FPS on PC

Great Puzzles
Remarkable Score
Strong Storytelling
Enemy Variety

Precise control both on the game controller and with mouse/keyboard.
Almost always, a map is available on which the protagonist draws everything that is relevant.
Next to the altars for manual backup, control points are regularly created.
More than 10 hours of gameplay (depending on the level of detail and difficulty) for the first playthrough.
History has something to say and cleverly reveals new details that shed light on the plot in a new way.
The New Game Plus strongly motivates players to replay with new content and endings.
Very well executed cinematic scenes (one scene is truly shocking due to its excessive violence)
Mysteries, level design, and the danger of ambushes create a very intense atmosphere.
A thorough exploration is almost always rewarded with items, documents, or even optional scenes.
The fights are numerous, but short and intense.
Sacrificing healing items to altars offers an interesting system of risks and rewards.
The riddles are kept atmospheric.
Journal is not only a quest log and a map, but also a narrative tool.
Beautifully designed sets with many details that contribute to the story.
Extremely successful fog effect
Disturbing monster design with ties to historical themes
Translate from French to English:
Excellent Japanese dubbing and quality English dubbing
Successful translation into German
Intense soundtrack with Japanese instruments, sometimes featuring the recognizable signature of the main composer Yamaoka.
Unpleasant sounds of monsters and sometimes of the environment.
Only the difficulty level of the action can be reduced after several consecutive deaths.
The progress in the last hour is hindered by too many consecutive battles.
Thanks to counter-attacks and imbalance as key elements, battles in "Hard" mode often end either with barely a scratch, or with massive damage.
A certain miniboss is reused in a very absurd manner very often.
The first ending leaves some questions unanswered and may seem unsatisfactory in itself.
Two riddles with clues that are too vague and no feedback on your mistakes.
Suboptimal PC optimization with occasional micro-slowdowns
In narrow alleyways, the AI sometimes bumps into walls while trying to navigate around you.
The opponents pivot remarkably in place when they change their route.
No German audio track
No overlay with translation for Japanese panels.

The atmosphere is unbeatable.
The power of Unreal Engine in terms of graphics
A powerful story and a carefully crafted narrative.
Great balance between action and terror
Very stimulating puzzles
The game continues once it is finished.

No "Pros & Cons" find at PCGamer

Permanent tension;
Successful inventory management;
Multiple purposes;
More nervous fights;
Interesting and surprising story.
Multiple purposes to discover the whole story.

1960s Japan setting provides a refreshing take
Has that signature Silent Hill dark atmospheric look and feel
Well written story that focuses on psychological horror and challenges your morals
Akira Yamaoka returns to compose the game?s soundtrack
No "Pros & Cons" find at Le Bêta-Testeur

The plot written by Ryukishi07 explores complex psychological and social themes, with a well-characterized protagonist and multiple endings that increase replayability.
High quality graphics and audio
A pair of riddles could prove too challenging for less attentive players.

Gallery of characters more complex than it seems
A high-quality infernal bestiary
Very good bosses (on a franchise scale, anyway)
Offering mechanics that intelligently complicate inventory management.
Akira Yamaoka, often imitated but never equaled.
Technically, it's spot on.
A New Game Plus that truly revisits the base adventure
Puzzles below exploration and combat
The first third of the adventure is a bit weak compared to the rest.

Dripping with terrifying atmosphere
+
Smart horror writing that's compelling throughout
+
Monster designs are wonderfully gnarly
Combat focus is a bit too heavy
-
Regular enemies can be more gruelling than bosses
-
Story mode weirdly demanding, and unintuitive difficulty settings in general

A faithful narrative to the license
A very elaborate bestiary...
Remarkable sound design with some compositions by Akira Yamaoka.
A true replayability, necessary to uncover all the secrets of the game.
Enhanced combat mechanics but sometimes frustrating.
... But not always placed in a way that serves it
Some puzzles are really not clear.

Good combat system
He has all the elements of a good survival horror.
Beautifully artistic
Problematic camera management
The Italian translation leaves something to be desired.

The story and how it encourages us to replay it.
When he wants to be Silent Hill, it's incredible...
Some puzzles could not be more poorly designed.
On the PS5 Pro, we have a single mode with graphical errors.

Audio sector and original soundtrack (OST).
Some exaggerations in the scenario and gameplay,

Story, dialogues, and staging are deeply imprinted in the mind of the one who is performing.
A horror video game with its own message and voice.
It happens that the typical grotesque of the series becomes fantastic.
The combat system is rigid and not very successful.

Designing creatures and scary sounds just at the right point.
Technically very valid
Ordinary and imperfect combat system

Excellently crafted puzzles throughout
Distinct setting and profound story
Certain story beats feel forced
The dodge mechanic can be irritating
No "Pros & Cons" find at Absolute Geeks

Stunningly spooky and un-formulaic Silent Hill setting
Its storyline enchants, intrigues and horrifies in equal measure
Definitely not for the squeamish
Elements such as Sanity and Focus feel superfluous

The narrative offers five endings and deep themes such as family trauma.
The gameplay combines the DNA of Silent Hill with mechanics inspired by soulslikes.
Puzzles are numerous, varied and stimulating.
The artistic direction and the fog in Unreal Engine 5 create a total immersion.
The soundtrack by Akira Yamaoka and the Japanese or English voice acting are remarkable.

Great presentation really draws you in
Disturbing in the right way

The new setting gives the impression of being a powerful blend between Asian horror and Silent Hill.
The fight is quite intense.
The horror dares to insinuate deeply under your skin at times.
Lacks a bit of variety in the enemies.
requires several parts to obtain the complete story

Complex characters
A particularly successful atmosphere
The design of monsters
A flawless achievement
Way too many fights
Some rather uninteresting riddles
Some old school patterns are not so great (having to redo the same action multiple times, for example)

The plot of Ryukishi07 and his storytelling. Doing it twice is mandatory and not boring at all.
Fantastic puzzles with many changes in difficulty.
There are terrifying moments that give you goosebumps.
The audiovisual section is magnificent. Very expressive characters, Yamaoka on fire, breathtaking sound effects...
The finish line becomes unbearable with so many battles.
The levels in the real world are better than the dream levels. I hope the distribution wouldn't be 50/50.

Satisfying riddles by their structure and their way of resolution.
Characterization of Ebisugaoka commendable.
Sound and monster design one notch below the other chapters.
Avoidable blocking phases and resulting weakened gameplay tension.

Spectacular art, music, and sound
Fresh combat gameplay ideas that evolve the formula
A beefy campaign
The combat design doesn't always mesh well with its encounter design

Simply magnificent artistic section
The sound, impressive
The new location delighted us.
Slightly irregular riddles
The design of the enemies did not impress us as much as those of the previous installments.

Stunning visuals with grotesque yet beautiful fungal horror designs.
Sound design and music create a constant sense of tension and immersion.
Puzzles are cleverly integrated into environments and storytelling, enhancing the overall experience.
Exploration rewards thorough players with lore and subtle upgrades.
Some puzzles rely on overly cryptic logic, stalling progress.
Slow pacing may alienate players seeking faster action.
The limited progression system may feel shallow to RPG fans.
Ambiguous storytelling may confuse players who crave clarity.

Not a ?Souls-like? in combat style
The atmosphere is creepy, as well as the enemy styles
A very slow-moving story
Relies heavily on Japanese mythology and knowledge

The soundtrack
The dubbing in English and Japanese
Good lifespan
Beautiful environments
Well-made riddles
The choice of difficulty for combat and puzzle
The Souls-like battles
The weapons that break

Keep the essence of the series, but present it in an innovative way in terms of storytelling.
High-quality graphics based on Unreal Engine 5
Good soundtrack and solid dubbing (in English and Japanese)
Separate difficulty levels for action and puzzles selectable
Different unlockable endings
Design of opponent widely successful...
At best, a mediocre combat system, slow and verbose.
Game imbalance (too easy at a low level, tendency to be too difficult at a higher level)
No German voice
No "Pros & Cons" find at IGN

Memorable artistic direction
A good pace
Not crazy fights
Sequences almost out of context

Fantastic music, Innovative and engaging puzzles
An exciting story
Poor combat system against enemies that are attractive but uninteresting to fight
Flawed item economy

New Game
+ adds to the story
Strong combat feel
Blood-curdling atmosphere
Brutal and intense
First ending is abrupt
Poor enemy variety
No "Pros & Cons" find at GameInformer
No "Pros & Cons" find at Journal du Geek

The typical Japanese village
The characters
The narration
And so the fights are not great
The game is a corridor

Combat in the spirit realms
Spooky atmosphere
Encounters in real world are just not fun

A mastered artistic direction combining organic horror and Japanese aesthetics from the 1960s.
A scenario by Ryukishi07, both psychological, symbolic and tragic.
Exploration and carefully crafted puzzles, faithful to the original spirit of Silent Hill.
A decent lifespan and five alternative endings encouraging replayability.
The clumsy and rigid combat, too inspired by Soulslike games, is out of sync with the DNA of the saga.
Lack of variety in enemies and some action mechanics.
Technical issues on PC
The absence of truly memorable musical themes, in favor of a more diffuse atmosphere.
A more contemplative experience than terrifying.

Killer art direction
Sound design and score are excellent
Clumsy narrative structure
World isn't interesting to explore
