Incredibly mechanically expansive, allowing for a staggering range of player expression, both inside and outside of battle
great dungeon design and boss fights
extremely varied and distinct cities
breezy story that never gets in your way
great soundtrack
the game appears conscious of not wanting to waste the player's time
The graphical style can take some getting used to (and never settles into being good on the whole)
a very poor first impression
missing some QoL options from its predecessors
some very poor voice acting for minor NPCs

Familiar gameplay and setting
Small touches make it feel like a modern take on a familiar experience
Tons of options to build the character you're looking for
Ability to explore and interact with the world
Tons of things to discover and overcome
Art is rather hit and miss
Sometimes feels overly familiar
Story has some twists, but otherwise isn't anything new

Managing jobs, items, abilities and therefore tactics can be engaging
Irreverent developer input by way of Tips, tutorials and some 'commentary'
Painterly in-town visuals add much-needed visual flair
Magic and Special attack 'flair' can be pretty awesome, especially at the higher levels and later in the game
A naff narrative as old as the genre and game-style itself
Poor character writing
Zero departure overall from JRPGs before it
An absolute grind that grinds away almost all desire to play
Said grinding grates moreso because of repetitive music

The game?s battle system can be unforgiving, teaches you to learn from mistakes
A beautiful world that?s essentially a storybook in motion
The Asterisk system is a ton of fun to experiment with
The soundtrack is some of the best in the series
Character models are somewhat creepy
The camera can be a pain, the way the camera tracks the party is not preferred
There's a huge level of grinding needed
