War of the Chosen offers an essential take on the base game with a variety of new classes, quality-of-life changes, and ways to get the player more emotionally invested in the narrative
The meta-layer of base management and troop customization is just as interesting as pitting your soldiers against the alien hordes
Long load times and freezing in the middle of combat maneuvers ruin the immersion and make for a frustrating experience
The cluttered UI design choices of years past have not been updated for the Switch's handheld screen and navigating complicated menus while contending with performance issues is unpleasant
