Playing as two different characters brings great variance in combat and story
Fantastic cutscenes and interactions
The way wildlife blends in along with weather elements is mind blowing

Yasuke and Naoe are incredible characters, it's a great feeling to be able to switch between them and learn their stories.
Its gameplay is very enjoyable, managing to captivate you for hours on end without you even realizing it, and it offers content for months!
The dubbing and the soundtrack are up to the project, whether you play it in Spanish or Japanese, it is highly recommended!
There are occasional FPS drops at certain moments that do not affect gameplay but are noticeable.
The artificial intelligence of the enemies could have been much more exploited to enrich their gameplay; they have neither many options nor much intelligence.
Collecting weapons and armor is one of the most enjoyable things, but the evolution system of these items makes them lose their meaning as you progress in the game.

Quite impressive gameplay variations
Excellent setting and very beautiful decor
Interesting and rewarding progression system
Intense and stimulating combat in the right measure.
Small bugs and crashes - but nothing too serious.
Lifespan
It's beautiful
Agreed scenario!

... the emphasis on history is important to you.
... you especially enjoy the stealthy aspect of Assassin's Creed.
... you don't like working on task lists.
... a complete abandonment of the Ubisoft formula is expected.

The brutality of Yasuke
The symbiosis of two visions
A gripping and theatrical narrative
Different interesting character arcs
Artistically sharp
Just the right amount of playtime
An almost bug-free AC
An organic, living and coherent world
A game that aims to please everyone
Lack of audacity
Dispensable, even cumbersome mechanics
A feeling of emptiness nonetheless
A game that tries too hard to please everyone

Two protagonists provide the best of both worlds for Assassin's Creed fans
+
Scenery you can (and will) spend hours obsessing over
+
Best-in-class combat for the series
A scattershot story with a disappointing conclusion
-
The Knowledge system gets repetitive once you've seen every activity type

Good pacing that keeps the story at around 40 hours of length
Excellent stealth and combat, especially at Expert difficulty
Reduced handholding for main and side quests
Amazing visuals, some of the best seen in gaming to date
A lot of different gameplay systems to get more involved in the game's world...
Even with all the improvements, it is still the Assassin's Creed RPG formula seen since Origins
The choice of protagonists and the historical inaccuracies can be a turn off
Mediocre English voice acting
30 FPS lock for cutscenes

The best infiltration gameplay in the series
A formula at its peak
Missions too uninspired
We want more staging!

A beautifully realized world
Combat is fun, proving to be frantic and rewarding
The contrasting combat styles allow you to take a break from one to explore the other
An easy transmog system so you can look your best
The game ran very smoothly for me on PC
Awkward traversal at times
Reasonably rare animation issues, but enough to be worth mentioning
Occasionally, the voice acting of NPCs was a little weak
It doesn't really try to push the series forward in an exciting way

Base camp management
The infiltration
The seasons have an effect on the way of playing.
Overall a good work
Game mechanics seen and reviewed
Messy fights
Movements are still not smooth enough.

Naoe and Yasuke are great protagonists
Open world Japan is a joy
Superb weather and season systems
Solid combat, slick stealth
Striking soundtrack
RPG elements can feel forced
English dub is rough

+Dynamic seasonal changes that impact both visuals and gameplay mechanics.
+Engaging dual-character system with distinct playstyles.
+Satisfying combat with a variety of weapons and engraving customization.
+Meaningful Base-building mechanics with customization options. -Some story choices lack real consequences, leading to similar outcomes. -Enemy AI does leave a lot of room for improvement as its too easy to exploit for stealth. Reviewed on Windows PC
Poor at indicating where to go next
Uninteresting and non-challenging puzzles
Story gets a bit too obtuse at times
My run completely locked itself
reviewed at 09/12/2025 - Review: Ayasa: Shadows of Silence [read the full review on Movies Games and Tech]

Stealth gameplay is some of the series? best
Exploration-first open world design is a big step forward
Satisfying RPG gear and hideout progression
Both Naoe and Yasuke are compelling protagonists
Dual-protagonist setup feels awkwardly implemented at times

A rich and captivating story
Many side quests
The shelter!
The league/scouting system
Too much darkness
Several enemies at the same time...

A great Spanish dubbing with voices that will be familiar to players.
Secondary content
Game mechanics retrieved from deliveries of yesteryear
Culture and philosophy of the time
Traditional Japanese activities
Underutilized areas and props on stage during the stealthy assassination of enemies.

The protagonists present a wide variety of approaches.
A grand return to the secretive origins of the series.
Some design choices excessively familiar
Limited variety of scenarios and side missions

Gorgeous visuals and audio
Best stealth mechanics in the series yet
Game suffers from the same repetitive action and quests after a while

A stunning world to explore and navigate.
The differences between Naoe and Yasuke.
The new vague-direction quest marking.
So many American accents in the English translation.
[4/5] reviewed at 19/03/2025 - Test Assassin's Creed Shadows: Blades Of The Rising Sun [read the full review on Absolute Geeks]

The combat is the best in the franchise, with its series of impressive mechanics, weapons, takedowns, boss fights, and more.
The stealth is among the best in the franchise, as you feel like the ultimate assassin.
The visuals are out of this world, and the designs throughout make you feel like you're actually in Japan's historical period.
Microtransactions are still a thing in the Assassin?s Creed franchise, but they shouldn?t have a place in this franchise, let alone in video games.
The game is very intensive, and you may need a very powerful PC to have a compelling gaming experience.

The graphics are very nice.
You are no longer overwhelmed by so many icons.
Gameplay that allows you to choose between stealth and punching.
The creation of your base is super cool
The photo mode is very basic.
Some bugs from time to time

A vast world... but not too much
Technically majestic
We would have preferred a greater variety in the "Assassination" missions.

Beautifully designed open world
Variety in gameplay
Narrative focus on one of the two protagonists
Repetitive elements
Beautiful open world elegantly designed
Variety in gameplay
Narrative focus on one of the two protagonists
Repetitive elements

Naoe and Yasuke are both great to play as
Overflowing with content
Enjoyable, versatile combat
A wealth of accessibility options
Kittens and puppies!
Some presentation issues resulting from the port
Lots of tedious quest design

Graphics.
Fight.
Sometimes the lights do not work properly.
At 8pm, it starts to become repetitive.

A well-finished Ubi game at launch
Interesting adrenaline system for special moves
Two very different characters to handle
Cheaper than the other versions
Long lifespan / Being able to play AC Shadows anywhere
A multitude of additional tasks to do, including building your headquarters.
Good French dubbing
Very successful music
30fps constant in portable mode
Best prologue of the entire saga
Pretty stylish fights
Great climate and lighting effects
High quality portage, like Star Wars Outlaws
Exciting historical narrative
Touch screen used on the map and menus
Redundant Ubi mechanics like the Eagle Towers
Meta story that no longer knows where it's going
Camera issues during fights and visibility problems in the forest
Perfectible artificial intelligence
Frame rate drops during combat in the city, especially when docked.
No Ray-Tracing unlike Star Wars Outlaws.

Two distinct combat styles
Less open world busywork
Enjoyable new mechanics
Narrative pacing
Not a huge leap forward for AC
Questions about non-curated performance

This game?s Japan is as beautiful as any map I?ve seen
Honest to the expected ?Assassin?s Creed experience?
Great performance and stability for such a big game
The interest per square foot in this map is just now there
So often the parkour would creep into clunky territory

Quality main stories
The high-quality gameplay of Naoe and Yasuke
The interactive environment with the seasons
No bugs for the Xbox Series X version
Reduced game lifespan compared to its predecessors.
Perfect symbiosis between Yasuke and Naoe
Overall atmosphere of the game
High quality soundtrack
Catastrophic facial animations
Narrative framework in the background of its predecessors
Unnecessary side quests (such as FEDEX type)

A wide variety of accessibility options
New mechanics that bring some fresh air into the series
Ability to create your own base and customize it in different ways
Returns to the RPG mechanics
Forced yellow climbing indicators
Odd use of modern music in certain fights
Turning on guided mode disables certain achievements
Gain more experience from exploring than you do fighting

A portable version that generally holds up.
A gargantuan adventure sold at a reasonable price
Cross-progression available through Ubisoft Connect.
The touchscreen support for navigating through menus: very convenient
Last update already applied with the modification of the parkour.
Lack of stability in the menus with many crashes.
Aliasing, popping, reduced display distance, low textures: obvious compromises
No support for the mouse mode of Joy Con 2.
The HD vibrations lack finesse (but remain adjustable)

Feudal Japan, a real pleasure to explore
Special attention given to the sound and visual atmosphere
The complementarity and complicity of Naoe and Yasuke
An interesting plot
Side quests more relevant than usual
Yasuke is less pleasant to control than Naoe.
A feeling of repetitiveness after about twenty hours.
A combat system and parkour to improve
Map design
Enjoyable mix between combat and exploration
Lots of smaller bugs
Character swapping becomes tedious

Sharp stealth
Painstakingly crafted open-world

Bizarre Animus content
Thin combat
Refined action-RPG gameplay with less bloat and more fluidity

Excellent focus on accessible and approachable design
A truly massive game once again
Fun stealth and combat
Unique Tank Gameplay
Equipment System lacks excitement
Open World emptiness
Nice scenario
Endearing NPC
Database management aspect
General atmosphere
Some quests are truly captivating.
The skills trees are consistent.
Some fights are too easy.
The care taken in historical reconstruction is commendable.
The two characters really offer two very distinct styles of play.
This is exactly what you would expect from an AC.
Sometimes, it can be very frustrating during checks.
Fights are never really exciting.
This is exactly what you expect from an AC.
Dreamy lighting atmosphere and breathtaking weather effects.
A beautifully designed game world with four changing seasons.
two protagonists with different playing styles and strong personalities
Many small gameplay improvements with a big impact.
less pressure for 100% completion
Less quantity than quality despite 60 to 80 hours of gameplay.
Stealth is back
More varied combat system
Fascinating insights into Japanese culture and history.
a very good soundtrack (both in German and English)
A lack of refinement and diversity in secondary activities.
The combat system quickly becomes monotonous over time.
dubious violence against civilians
Practical use via touchscreen
The cutscenes on the Switch 2 look very clean.
Fights, movement and courses with smooth performance
Good overall view
Curly hair representation
Blurry and not very plastic textures
Surfaces often appear painted, so there is little difference between different materials.
Visible rechargeable items, especially in horseback riding.
Sparkling on the edges during fast movements, for example during a fight.
