No "Pros & Cons" find for this reviewer.

The gameplay remains as solid as in the previous ones, offering high doses of action.
The inclusion of parrying as a central mechanic in shootouts
A huge variety of wacky situations that create a fantasy of supreme power.
The level design is more ambitious than ever.
The story is a bit weak, but the effort is appreciated.
The cutscenes that interrupt the action and go against the pace of the game.
The soundtrack is somewhat less iconic than that of previous games.

Still has the classic charm
Gameplay holds up well even today
Tons of replay value
Easy to pick up and play

Super Shotgun is once again the MVP
Shield provides lots of offensive and defensive options
Every action feels visceral and powerful
Mechs feel like a natural extension of core gameplay
Occasionally obtuse puzzle design

In-game mod support is fantastic
The new campaign, Legacy of Rust, offers a well-paced and brutal adventure for fans
Remixed soundtrack is incredible
Mods like GZDoom and Brutal Doom aren't supported
Sound mixing for the music feels off, causing the remixed tunes to feel overwhelming
No option for resetting display options to default

Several possible adjustments of details in case of damages suffered or inflicted, timing of bets, pace of play and much more.
Also very playable with the game controller.
Field of vision also adjustable on the console
The levels already played can be replayed directly upon request.
Fast and frantic shooting action
Panel saw, absolutely awesome tool.
Lush and varied arsenal of weapons
High solo playtime (for an appropriate difficulty level of 15 years and older)
Almost always fair and well-placed checkpoints.
Motivating progression system
The sections on dragons and on Atlan bring diversity.
Overall, the level design is very good.
Many secrets and bonus items
Pleasant puzzle and platform sections (much fewer and significantly better than in Eternal)
Technically exquisite graphics based on the id Tech 8 engine.
Design of a fantastic opponent
A huge level of detail for weapons, environments, and enemies.
Smooth representation throughout
Very short loading times, often invisible.
Catchy metal soundtrack
Powerful and rewarding sound effects
Completely and well dubbed in German.
Later, there will be one or two big fights too many.
The dragon battle is only moderately successful.
The story brings little added value.
Some application domains are visually rather dull.

... you want a beautifully orchestrated solo campaign from start to finish.
Your alarm clock plays a metal song in the morning.
... you prefer slow-paced gunfights in shooting games.
... you prefer listening to Pur rather than Slayer.

Story deepens the journey
Shield parrying reshapes gameplay
Strong weapon variety
Impressive visual and audio
Sometimes repetitive music loops

Satisfing new combat mechanics
Simple and streamlined upgrade system
Smooth buttery gameplay
Amazing head banging, heavy metal soundtrack
No more air and side dashing
Dragon combat sections aren't overly fun
quirky story

The shield was an excellent addition.
Wonderful soundtrack
Translation and localization PT-BR
Lack of memorable leaders
The soundtrack, although excellent, does not feature any memorable songs.

Support for 4K and 120 fps feels very good.
The legacy of rust alone is worth the price.
The multiplayer
The new weapons and enemies of Legacy of Rust
No, seriously, could you?

Incredible visuals, with various well-built environments
Complete localization for Brazilian Portuguese
Audio work is, once again, a great strength.
The narrative borrowing enriches the experience.
There is no type of multiplayer interaction, which could be cool.

Often feels simply epic
Great soundtrack
Brutal and hyperkinetic fights
The graphics performance is excellent.
The feeling of repetitiveness can be a harmful factor.
The story begins in a somewhat fragmented way.

Fantastic visual design and audio.
A good, long, meaty campaign.
Great level design, with some huge scale battles at points.
Glory kills have gone from regular combat.

Aunt, actually many accessibility options.
Many adjustments that improve the "quality of life" of both games.
Support for mods in console versions is highly appreciated...
... some of them tend to disrupt the game due to poor optimization.
No "Pros & Cons" find for this reviewer.

A varied arsenal of weapons with no real bad choices.
Useful upgrades for firearms, shield, and close combat.
The pace of play is no longer as high and exhausting in Eternal.
Extremely satisfying feedback
Various difficulty adjustment options
Very powerful soundtrack and overall sound quality
The genius of a Mick Gordon is missing
The missions with Atlan and the dragons have a potential that is lagging behind.
The story is still largely insignificant.

Lots of characters with storied backgrounds
Visually bright and interesting
Battles can drag on

Still works at a low player count
Simple rules
Inherent hostility will be a turn-off for some
The event deck can be hit-or-miss

Big levels packed with secrets
The Slayer is still a powerful presence
Great boss-filled third act
New characters aren?t interesting enough to the justify story focus
Dragon and Mech stages are very basic
The Dark Ages concept isn?t fully explored

[8/10] reviewed at 09/05/2025 - Doom: The Dark Ages [read the full review on GameReactor]

Combat is fun
Jump scares!
Some tracking issues and DualShock 4 offset sometimes feels odd
Jarring transitions to 2D cutscenes

Shield Saw and mace are excellent
Fun exploration in bigger levels
Industry-leading audio design
Throwaway story

The most metal art direction in recent memory
Varied roster of both familiar and creative new weapons
Mini-dungeons and areas with specific ideas are welcomes changes of pace
Ridiculous (in a good way) third act
The smooth, old-school gunplay blends well with the punchy melee mechanics
Weak, forgettable narrative
Giant mech and dragon sections don?t reach their full potential

Gunplay remains as brutal as ever
+
The shield is a good addition to combat
+
Entertaining visuals and aesthetics
The story and the Slayer himself lack personality
-
Melee and parrying focus don't justify the loss of mobility
-
Dragon and mech sequences are pretty shallow
